It's hard to believe, but there is an oasis hidden right in the heart of Little Italy. Down a a few steps and just behind a nondescript service door lies one of our favorite restaurants, Mulberry Project. Once you've passed the scrutiny of the burly doorman, you enter a dimly lit prohibition style lounge that could surely be a gangsters lair (if you don't want the doorman scrutinising whether or not you have on your best pair of Christian Louboutin's be sure to get there before 10pm).
Mulberry Project is best known for their bespoke cocktails. Just pick your poison along with herbs and fruits from their black board list and be surprised at the concoction that arrives...pepper, egg white, and basil are a few of my favorite ingredient choices. I've decided that the trick to making bespoke cocktails is to add lots of lemon or lime juice. After that you can add any ingredients you'd like and it will still taste great.
Last night we by passed the lounge and headed straight for their outdoor cafe. What a perfect night to enjoy the first fall evenings and a reprieve from the flooding rains here in NYC.
