CoCo Chanel...the french sailor shirt.

The french sailor shirt has always been a fashion staple, but it is currently a must have fashion accessory.  The  striped boat-neck shirts, first worn by french sailors, gained popularity when  introduced by Coco Chanel in 1917.

Originally the shirt featured 21 stripes. One for each of Napoleon's victories.
